About New River Poets:

Chartered as a member of the Florida State Poets Association in April of 2000, this group of poets in West Central Florida has dedicated itself to promoting an appreciation of poetry through their own work and the work of others. The group sponsors a tri-annual competition and published an anthology in 2004. With grant assistance from the Florida Department of State’s Division of Cultural Affairs, New River Poets partnered with Saint Leo University in 2006 to host a poetry festival featuring several renowned poets. New River members continue to perfect their own skills and to share poetry in a number of outreach programs at schools, libraries, and nursing homes. They believe that poetry, more than other literary forms, truly expresses and celebrates the “moments” of our lives.
